US Passport Photo Size Requirements
The US Department of State requires all passport photos to be exactly 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm). Your head must be between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches (25 to 35 mm) from the bottom of your chin to the top of your head.
Digital Specifications
For digital submissions, photos must be:
- At least 600 x 600 pixels and no more than 1200 x 1200 pixels
- JPEG format
- File size between 240KB and 10MB
Background Requirements
Your photo must have a plain white or off-white background. There should be no shadows on your face or behind you. Avoid patterned backgrounds and ensure good, even lighting.
Clothing and Appearance Guidelines
Wear normal clothing. Uniforms should not be worn in photos except for religious attire. Glasses are no longer allowed in US passport photos, even for prescription eyeglasses.
Expression and Position
You must have a neutral facial expression with both eyes open. Face the camera directly with your full face visible. No smiling or frowning.
